D is a very kind-hearted person, a better person than I. He brought up the point that Sara the stray is better with us than on the streets. So we decided to keep her. No more crazy spending on vet bills for biopsies..we're just going to keep her as is. Maybe at most get her spayed for her own protection (and ours) but that's it.

Anyway, after making this decision, I've been able to focus more on other things like trying to finish my work before vacation next week. It's a game - how much stuff I can done before next week. And I've been more focused on my diet and exercise regimen. For the past month (mostly to cut calories and my spending) I've been doing shakes for breakfast and lunch. It's been working out pretty well. My waistline is about the same, but everything else seems to be trimming down slowly.

Yesterday's workout
Squats 4/90/10
Step-ups 2/75/10(2x) very dangerous. kept on bumping into the squat cage considering either trying to use a squat rack or maybe doing split squats instead.
Rows 4/75,60(3x)/10
Push-ups 57
Swiss-ball crunches 75
30 mins on elliptical, 5 mins on stairmill

Tonight Ed and I are working out...woot!

Coming back from Toronto has been good and also stressful. Before we left for our trip, my mom called me about this dog that was roaming her workplace from Friday until Monday before we left for our trip. She talked about how she was starving and the humane society had not come to pick her up. Feeling really sorry for the dog, we decided to take her in.

In honor of Sarah Maclachlan, big advocate of pet adoption, we named her "Sara." She's a sweet, nervous dog who may have been abused in the past and has definitely been on the streets for a long time. Since we've gotten her, she had been drinking excessive amounts of water. We'd put out tons of water and she would finish it in one sitting. Of course she would pee a lot afterwards. After seeing that she was growing excessively shaky and threw up several times yesterday (mostly water and foamy stuff), I decided to make an appointment with the vet. Initially I suspected that she has either diabetes or Cushing's disease. Instead, I found out at the vet's office today (after spending $440..this is on top of the $244 we've initially spent for her rabies vaccination, steroid and allergy shots and three days boarding) that she has a couple mammary tumors, bad back and an enlarged heart (probably from age). From the x-rays, they can't tell if she has any additional tumors, but they can guess she's more than 7 years old.

We're facing some tough decisions. Do we get her spayed and have her tumors biopsied? And if she definitely has cancer, then what? At what point do you give up the dog? Especially one you were trying to help initially?

And because she was probably abused before, she did NOT do well with the examination. She was taken to the back to be handled by the technitians at the vet. I heard her scream for at least five minutes. They had to muzzle her in order to get the x-rays, blood and urnine analysis. What's going to happen when we have to wash her? Right now, she has fleas and is getting dirty on her backside. And we definitely can't have her around children. Overall she's very sweet with us, sometimes if I pull on her chain she gets snippy, but mostly she's just a scared little dog.

I'm going to the gym again today to go blow off some steam and to finish my cardio workout. Hopefully by the time I come back, D will be back from his fishing trip.
